How Was Your First Month of College?
I think that overall, college is fun. While the University I attend was not my first choice, it has proved to be the best choice. I have made some good friends to both study with and party with (I will get into partying later). I love the freedom that comes along with going to college because I literally am in control of my everyday. I am out of class by 2:30pm every single day and have the rest of the day to do whatever I want. However, that freedom is extremely dangerous (lol) because there is a lot you can be doing but procrastination can happen and you can end up wasting your day away.
My University told us that we should study 3 hours for each credit hour we have, which is equal to 2hours* 15 credit hours= 30 hours of studying a week. If you are a dedicated student, by all means, get your 30 hours in of studying for the week. But for me, I like to see what is happening on campus and what events are taking place (which has been a lot of events back to back on campus), and what events are taking place off-campus (which means hella partying every Friday or Saturday). Plus, the University I attend has a D1 football team in the SEC conference, so I have to go to the football games and to get good seats you have to attend other sporting events during the week to earn points (the more points the better the football game seat). There is so much of my time going to events, parties, games, and just meeting friends that I get sidetracked and forget that I am at college to get a degree.
In the first few weeks, I was saying how college is so much easier than high school and there were so many resources (and I have a great advisor) that there was no way college was going to stress me out. Well, I am a month into college and I am stressed and waiting on a school break right now (school break me plz lol). Those SI instructors, peer tutoring, and the student success center, in general, I have been putting off- which has been showing with my first two college exams. I think that while in high school you could cram and re-do a test, in college they do not od re-do's on tests and cramming does not work. Those 30 hours I mentioned earlier, I think that is a realistic number to study to be successful in your classes when it comes to exams because in a class of 400 students your professors are not going to know who you are or care if you fail the exam and so you need to put in the work and use the resources in your student success center to be successful in college.
